Why talking to strangers is a good idea from Tanya Moore

I got the train home from Bristol, it was a busy train, but luckily I found a seat. I started talking to the lady who I sat next to, she was off to visit her son and look after her grandchildren for a few days. She said she had been on the train for a while and no one had spoke to her. We spoke for the whole time I was on the train, about all kinds of things. It was refreshing for both of us and we both felt uplifted from being in each other’s company. I got off the train and wished her a pleasant week. I was walking up the ramp to the exit, with all the other people who had also got off the train. There was a lady with a t shirt that said ‘let’s spread happiness’, I complimented her and said ‘yes, let’s!’ We got talking about organic, fairtrade clothing and good websites to buy clothes. It turned out she was going in the same direction as me and she offered me a lift!

People are nice. Let’s talk to each other.

I always say hello to people in the street, I don’t mind if they don’t say hello back! Share the smiles and share the ‘hellos’!

Making conversation with someone has so many benefits – it can make a journey go quickly, you feel good and you could learn something.

So, when you are out and about today, see what interesting people you could say hello to!
