Great Pay it Forward Story

From Kim G.

I did something yesterday that I didnt even have to think twice about. Although, I am having a hard time with income, keeping food on our table, facing possible homeless soon, had no money at all for food, until yesterday… life has been really getting harder on me. Here’s what I did from my heart: It was well into the 90*’s again, & as I drove through the light into Walmart, there was a bearded guy & his dog, holding up a sign “homeless, anything will help”.

Instinctively my kindness just kicked in with all focus on myself aside. My little girl & I got the things we desperately had needed & grabbed him a bag of blue berry bagels & two bottles of water from the cooler. I couldn’t spare much, or take away from my child, but I could spare this little bit. “We will need two” I told my daughter. She said “why Momma?” “One for him & one for the dog” She was happy with that. I tossed a used clean microwave dinner dish in there, that I usually keep for my dogs (in my car).

On the way out, I was ‘lucky’ enough to be ‘stuck’ at the red light & raised up my bag & he smiled so brightly saying “thank you! Thank so much!” I told him the bread was safe for the dog to eat too” He quickly stuffed it in his bag, & he assured me the dog will get it” I headed towards home & there was another man, with another dog. I empathically knew that they were homeless together & keeping their dogs. I knew he was waiting, so they could share what he had collected.

Now despite criticism people dole out, I can say this, ignore criticism! If you want to help, do it. If your heart says “give” & you can, go ahead. People are hurting right now, me included. EMPATHY, consider that you may one day be on that ‘other side’ of the fence. Feel what they are feeling at that moment, when despair becomes a little less despairing. If you have ever been in those shoes (regardless the situation) than you can show true empathy and Pay It Forward.
